THE MOC VOICES
LEADERSHIP SUMMIT PRESENTED CHINONSO OGBOGU
A 3-day leadership summit hosted by Mount Olive College and sponsored by the directors of the college. it was mind blowing when the speaker spoke about the eight elements you must pay attention to when designing and managing a culture –CULTURE MANAGEMENT
- IDENTITY: Culture describes who you are and what your organization stands for. It can also be used as a symbol of brand differentiation.
- LANGUAGE: Many times, our culture is shaped or revealed by the language we use or promote in the workplace. By language, I mean oral, written and body language.
- STANDARDS: The standard that you set and allow in your organization makes a cultural statement.
- MEASUREMENT: Measurement is about transparency and data accountability for sound decision making. Never measure your culture in secret. Keep it transparent for all to see
- REWARDS: Your reward can make or break your culture. The behaviour you reward would likely lead to amplification of the same behaviour.
- SYMBOLS: Every great culture has marks that everyone rally towards. Turn your culture into symbols that triggers remembrance and facilitates exclusive commonality.
- CATALYSTS: All staff member will not exhibit the culture at the same frequency. But you must ensure your organization has the moving critical mass of them powered by core believers
- FILTERING: As a business seeks to grow, it goes through various cycles of pruning. Your culture is the most effective ways to filter your team for bad eggs.
In summary, the aforementioned are watered down with strong decisive objectives (4Ls): Lead, Listen, Learn and Live.
